Asst. Chief Ed Geisel, Sr.

Assistant Fire Chief Ed Geisel, Sr. has been with the Wheeling Fire Department for 38 years, joining in August of 1979. Geisel.jpeg

Born and raised in the Ohio Valley, Assistant Chief Geisel has made the Wheeling Fire Department a family affair. His son, Ed, Jr. and grandson Kody are firefighters in the department, creating three generations of Geisel’s to work at WFD.

After joining the department, Assistant Chief Geisel worked on Squad 7 as his first assignment. He later earned his paramedic certification in 1980 from West Virginia Northern Community College and was assigned to Station 2 in North Wheeling.

During his career, he was assigned to every station, except Station 11 in Elm Grove.

Assistant Chief Geisel was promoted to fire engineer in 1983, Lieutenant in 1990 and Captain in 1995.

He has served as the Chief Inspector and Assistant Chief for the Bureau of Fire Prevention since August 2008.

In addition to being a fire historian and enthusiast, Assistant Chief Geisel has attended a number of educational courses throughout his career, including the National Fire Academy.
