Social Media Terms of Use Policy
 (Effective June 21, 2022)

The official social media sites for the City of Wheeling, including its public safety agencies, provide the public with information about the city and its many departments, divisions and units, as well as its elected and non-elected leaders and employees. The City of Wheeling welcomes comments that are related to the specific content or topic posted on these social media platforms. These platforms, however, are not a public forum. Comments will be monitored, and the City of Wheeling reserves the right to hide or remove inappropriate comments and content containing the following: 

  • Threats of any kind, particularly towards elected officials, law enforcement, public safety and city employees
  • Comments not topically related to the post under which they were made
  • Abusive, vulgar or obscene language or content
  • Harassment of any kind, including name calling
  • Comments or content that has the potential to compromise public safety or the safety of city personnel
  • Information that may compromise pending law enforcement investigations
  • Comments/remarks that promote, foster, or perpetuate discrimination based of any protected class, including race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, gender identity or sexual orientation
  • Sexual related content of any kind, including pornographic images and videos
  • Links to external content (Links may expose readers to malware or other dangers)
  • Comments that conduct, encourage, promote, or incite criminal or illegal activity
  • Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party
  • Advertisement of any kind
  • Apparent spam or trolling

Any comments, posts, remarks or content that violates these guidelines may be removed by the City of Wheeling at its sole discretion and without prior warning or notice.  

The City of Wheeling reserves the right to block access to its social media pages to any user violating these guidelines/terms of use, without prior warning or notice.  

The City of Wheeling also reserves the right to make changes to these guidelines with or without notice, and when it may become necessary to do so.
