Prevention & Inspections

The Bureau of Fire Prevention    consists of two full-time firefighters and is responsible for the inspection of public and private buildings for fire safety and fire code violations. The BFP also serves as the main educational outlet for fire prevention in the City of Wheeling.

The BFP reviews plans for life safety on new construction and remodels, fire suppression systems, including alarms, sprinklers, hood systems, fire dampers and fire doors.

Community Outreach consists of many proponents. They include fire safety talks, participating in National Fire Prevention week, Wheeling Hospital’s Safety Town, The Wheeling Christmas Parade, and helping with a number of festivals at Wheeling Heritage Port. Throughout the academic year, the Bureau will visit all Ohio County elementary schools with the fire safety house.
