Crisis Response Unit

The Wheeling Police Department’s Crisis Response Unit provides 24/7 support for individuals and families experiencing mental-health emergencies, substance-use issues, or homelessness. This multidisciplinary team partners with officers to respond during active crises, provide immediate face-to-face assistance, and offer early intervention before situations escalate. They help people navigate the mental-health and substance-use treatment systems, provide short-term counseling, offer follow-up care, and connect individuals with long-term community resources. The CRU also serves as a vital support resource for law enforcement, schools, hospitals, and other agencies. Their goal is to deliver compassionate, effective help and ensure that people in crisis receive ongoing support—not just emergency response.
