Assistant Chief Jim Blazier oversees the training division for the Wheeling Fire Department. Asst. Chief Blazier joined WFD in January of 1989.
He earned an associate’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Belmont College in 1988, he also received his paramedic training from West Virginia Northern Community College in 1990 and an associate’s degree in nursing from WVNCC in 1997.
Assistant Chief Blazier has worked many roles in his 28-years at the Wheeling Fire Department. He was assigned to squads 1 and 2 for many years after earning his promotion to fire engineer in 1993. He moved to Rescue 1 after earning the rank of Lieutenant in 1996, and later assigned to Engine 2 as Captain when promoted in 1998.
He has served as an Assistant Chief and has lead the training division since February 2009.
In 2017, Fire Chief Larry Helms named Blazier “Firefighter of the Year.”
