Wheeling Parks and Recreation to Host Second Annual Turkey Trot

Lace up your running shoes and start your Thanksgiving morning on the right foot! The City of Wheeling’s Parks and Recreation Department will host the second annual Wheeling Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 27, at the Alma Grace McDonough Center on the Wheeling University campus, 316 Washington Ave. The event features a 5K Run/Walk and a 1K Children’s Fun Run.

“Whether you’re an avid runner or just looking for a fun way to kick off your Thanksgiving Day, this event is for you. Everyone is welcome,” said Rochelle Barry, Parks and Recreation Director. “We hope this activity becomes one more thing families and friends can add to their list of holiday traditions.”

Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the Parks and Recreation Project Fund, which supports improvements to our parks, facilities and community programs.

Registration is available online at www.wheelingwv.gov/turkeytrot. Fees are as follows: 5K Run/Walk: $35 in advance; $40 on race day; 1K Children’s Fun Run: $15 regardless of sign-up date. For those who can’t make it in person, sign up as a “Pardoned Turkey” to participate virtually and secure an event T-shirt. Fee levels are the same as the 5K Run/Walk. All 5K participants will be entered into prize drawings held throughout the event.

The day’s schedule is as follows: 7-8:30 a.m., packet pickup and registration open; 8:30 a.m.,1K Children’s Fun Run; 9 a.m., 5K Run and Walk. An awards ceremony will follow immediately inside the McDonough Center.

To skip race-day lines, participants are encouraged to pick up packets early at the Parks and Recreation Office, 10 Hunter Ave., from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25 and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
