The Wheeling Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to plan ahead for traffic impacts related to this weekend’s Half-Marathon and Wellness Weekend, on Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25.

The main running and walking event will begin at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of 14th and Main Streets, with the main race expected to conclude around 11 a.m.

The half-marathon will continue through East Wheeling, south through Center Wheeling to 39th Street, up 29th Street Hill, through the Village of Bethlehem, along National Road through Elm Grove to Fulton, up Wheeling Hill, and back to the start/finish line at 124^th and Main Streets in downtown.

Friday, May 23:

• Fulton Area Only: Beginning at around 7 a.m. and lasting until 10 a.m., city operations will sweep National Road from Mount de Chantal Road to McColloch Street. Signage will be posted, and parking will resume once sweeping is complete.
• Parking will be permitted throughout the rest of the course all day and evening.

Saturday, May 24:

• NO PARKING Enforced: Starting at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, any vehicles parked in posted “No Parking” areas will be towed. Affected areas include Elm Grove Business District, Fulton, Parts of Downtown, parts of Center and South Wheeling. These zones will be marked with signage. Parking will be permitted again once the race concludes late Saturday morning.

• Bus Route Change: The OVRTA downtown bus stop on Nailers Way will be temporarily relocated to Eoff Street between 16th and 17th Streets on Saturday morning.
• Recommended Parking: Spectators and participants are encouraged to park at the Robert C. Byrd Intermodal Transportation Center (1401 Main Street). Please note that access will be available only from the Main Street entrance.
• Traffic Reminders: Avoid traveling along the race route unless necessary. Drivers must reduce speed, remain alert, and watch for runners and walkers, especially near coned-off areas. Wheeling Police officers will be stationed at major intersections to manage traffic flow and ensure safety.

Sunday, May 25

Expect road closures and minor traffic delays in the Downtown and Center Wheeling areas from noon to approximately 5 p.m. for Sunday’s ‘Tough as Nails’ Urban Challenge events.
