Wheeling resident Jessica Zalenski has been appointed as the Friendly City’s next City Clerk. Council approved the appointment Tuesday evening following an executive session. Zalenski will assume her new role on Wednesday.
“In hiring Brenda Delbert to the City Clerk position in 2017, City Council made a deliberate decision to prioritize a customer service approach for this very important position. With Ms. Delbert having excelled in the City Clerk position and now moving on to another position within the City, our hope was to find in her replacement someone with a similar skill set. Throughout our search and interview process, Jessica Zalenski emerged as the best candidate to bring that same approach and customer-service mindset to the City Clerk position. We congratulate her on her selection and very much look forward to working with her,” said Mayor Glenn Elliott.
Zalenski is looking forward to her new job in city government.
“I am very much looking forward to my new role as City Clerk. While there is some learning to do, I believe my professional experience is a great foundation for this position and I am eager to get started,” she said.
A graduate of the Linsly School, Zalenski has served as a sales and event coordinator, a receptionist and a retail manager. She has been responsible for obtaining and retaining customers, record keeping, employee management and all aspects of customer service.
The City Clerk’s Office serves as a document and information resource to City Council, all City departments and to the citizens of the City. The Mayor, with the advice and consent of Council, appoints the City Clerk.
