Wheeling Tree Board Conducting Ceremonial Tree Planting in Celebration of Arbor Day

In celebration of Arbor Day, the City of Wheeling’s Tree Board will conduct a tree planting ceremony at 1 p.m., Friday, April 8 on the north side of Oglebay’s Schenk Lake. West Virginia celebrates Arbor Day on the second Friday of April each year.

Board Chair Karen Cox will lead the ceremony and a planting demonstration. Participants will learn the fundamentals of keeping a tree healthy as well as identifying trees even when they have no leaves.  A tree walk will follow and will depart from Wilson Lodge at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

“Trees are an important part of a healthy community. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate Arbor Day with these activities,” she said.

The events are free and open to the public. Tree keys will be available for purchase from the Ohio County Master Gardeners for $5.
