The Investigations Division consists of four investigators and one supervisor. Detectives follow up on calls that require more than an initial report. Investigators are tasked with interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses as well as obtaining surveillance video and any forensic evidence. The Wheeling Police Department's Investigations Division is also an affiliate with the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The task force participates in actively pursues perpetrators involved with internet crimes against children, as well as investigates crimes reported by individuals. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also provides cyber tips for investigation in the Wheeling area. WPD currently dedicates one full-time detective to the ICAC task force.
