Interstate 70 throughout the City of Wheeling will undergo a $214-million bridge rehabilitation project on 26 bridges from the Ohio State line to Milepost 7 (Middle Creek Road area) until October 2022. The project is needed to provide structurally safe bridges and connections that accommodate current local and interstate travel needs. The project is broken down into three areas: Section A (Ohio State Line to West Side of Tunnel); Section B (East Side of Tunnel to Elm Grove); and Section C (I-470 interchange to Mile Post 7/Middle Creek Road).
Wheeling Suspension Bridge: The historic 170-year-old Wheeling Suspension Bridge was CLOSEDindefinitelyby the West Virginia Department of Transportation in September 2019. Until further notice, no vehicular traffic will be permitted on the bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists are permitted to use the bridge.
