Pools + Swimming Lessons

Keep cool this summer at any of our City pools. Opening day is Saturday, June 2, with daily hours of noon to 6:00 p.m. The City will operate the concession stands, and certified lifeguards are always on duty at the following locations:

  • 36th street in South Wheeling
  • Garden Park in Warwood
  • Bridge Park on Wheeling Island
  • Grandview Pool in Wheeling Heights

Going to the pools is a great, afforable way to enjoy the summer sun.
$1.00 for adults/$.50 for children 5-12/FREE for kids 5 and under
 

Learn To Swim

The City of Wheeling offers one of the best learn to swim programs in the Tri-State Area. The cost is a nominal $5.00. Sessions are open to children 3 and older. Each session is scheduled for two weeks (Monday through Friday). We offer classes for beginners to advanced swimming levels. There will also be preschool classes for children 3-5 years (a parent or guardian must accompany child into water). The classes are taught by experienced lifeguards and instructors.

Registration is on the first day of each session anytime between 9-11:30 a.m. A certificate will be given at the completion of the classes.


Senior Swim
We have stretched the senior citizen age group a good bit to include everyone 50 and over. The pools will be yours exclusively every Saturday for one hour at 11:00 a.m. under the supervision of a certified lifeguard. This program is absolutely FREE. You may swim laps or simply splash or exercise in the water.


Moonlight Swim (July)
Special moonlight swims from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. will be offered at all City pools during the month of July. Regular admission prices will be charged.

Season Swim Pass
The Recreation Department will again offer Season Swim Passes. These can be purchased at your neighborhood pool.

Family Pass=$40
Single Adult/Student Pass=$25
Senior Citizen Pass=$15.

Family Fun Night
The Wheeling Recreation Department sponsors a free "FAMILY FUN NIGHT" on the following dates:

JULY 6 - BRIDGE PARK POOL
JULY 13 - 36TH STREET POOL
JULY 27 - GRANDVIEW POOL
AUGUST 3 - GARDEN PARK POOL

There will be FREE ADMISSION into the pool as well as free hot dogs, ice cream, soda, and a D.J. from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, and the concession stands will also be open. Enjoy a fun family outing at your neighborhood pool.
