Oglebay’s Festival of Lights named by AOL as one of the BEST Christmas Light Displays in the US.
Oglebay’s Festival of Lights has put Wheeling, West Virginia in the national spotlight.  AOL Travel has rounded up the 10 Best Christmas Light Displays in the U.S and Oglebay resort was named #2 on the list.
Oglebay Resort’s Festival of Lights, a six-mile drive through the hillsides of the resort, “is decorated in one of the largest and most famous Christmas light displays in the country,” according to AOL travel.  In 1985 a holiday tradition began at Oglebay.  A tunnel with thousands of twinkling snowflakes, a six foot poinsettia wreath and the Peanuts gang are just a few of the displays, there are more than 70 light displays.  The garden area features 150 hanging baskets of light, a few dozen lighted trees and a life-size Nativity scene.  In addition to being one of the BEST Christmas displays in the U.S it has also gone green.  All new displays at the show will use LED lights and the existing displays continue to be converted to LED.  LED bulbs are much more environmentally friendly and use 85% less energy and last five times longer.

O’Brien also said the national recognition will drive additional visitors to the Wheeling area stimulating our economy.
